Jeff came back from China this morning. His flight from Toronto was cancelled last night because of bad weather so we thought he would arrive this morning. At 4.45 a.m. the phone rang - it was Jeff saying "open the door". We let him and talked a bit then went back to bed. He came with 3 suitcases - mostly full of Chinese packets of food. And a beautiful tea set. The cups are about 1.25 inches wide and 1 inch high. The pot - very pretty is about 2.5 inches high. The tea - you can see it in a block there - is broken off in a piece and put in the pot - then the pot is refilled with hot water as many times as you need to - maybe 10 or 20 times. The plate is to be put under the cups to catch the extra when the pot is waved from cup to cup to fill them. The white rectangular block at the back is the tea we used. The round patty that is about the size of the plate is another bunch of tea. The set comes in the red box which has a pot, plate and 6 cups in it. This is tea. The stuff I usually drink is known here as tea juice. The brown bag on the left is some kind of fungus - a very good medicine he says.

Wow, the set is very beautiful. The cups look so delicate and makes me think that I could be very genteel drinking from them.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of reusable tea in the pot. That's very clever. Is it because the tea is always quite weak? You didn't tell us what it tasted like.
Why is your usual tea called tea juice??
Finally, I also import medicines from my home country! Cold-FX, I love you! I am taking it now after a long week and lots of people around me coughing.
What a nice treat! Hope he had a wonderful Christmas in China
